Not sure if anyone ever finds their way to this page anymore. Most of the sites news ends up on the forum! But today probably the most exciting news all year, I finally got myself a Australian domain name. Wooohooo! The site will function as normal, and you've most likely been redirected to the new address already. I'm really glad to have finally done it.

Huge update to the site. Most of the work involved the new thumbnail image sizes. Now panorama's will be showed much larger in thumbnails, but actual site looks less neat now. However being able to see the panorama's properly from the directory page really makes up for it. They look awesome! I also rewrote the search function to work with these new larger thumbnails! All in all I think it looks alot better, although I'm sure to find a few directories that won't play nicely!

I've been learning about SQL databases at uni. So I thought I would test my knowledge by setting up a database system for MelbournePhotos! I've finally got a really well thought out database scheme thought out(its surprisingly tricky making sure the data is stored in an intelligent way) and now I'm on to entering information about all the photos. Its an extremely slow process, each photo takes about a minute or so and there are thousands of photos. But eventually it will allow everyone to find all photos of building X, find all photos on street Y and good *eventually* old fashioned search function. As of today the only directory with these functions working is Western CBD. Load up a photo to see a little bit of information below. Have a little look around!

I decided to change the way a few of the sites features work. You should see very little different but behind the scenes the site is alot neater :). The main thing I changed was the "pics/" directory into a "images/" directory and I seperated the webcam code from the images. It means I can keep the site and my new testing changes site seperate yet still use the same images.

I added a favicon. Its supposed to be Rialto, 120 Collins st and the new Eureka tower. I'm not sure anyone but anyone will actually see what I want them too :P. Note: It doesn't work in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

I added a html "frame" around images. Now they have next/prev buttons and the menu. I think its a great improvement over the old system which had nothing! The next step will be per-image descriptions of what is in the photo.

The webcam is finally up! Check it out!

I added a watermark script to the site. Now it shows a little http://www.melbournephotos.net in the bottom right of all the images. I think it works well. It does it on the fly without changing the original image. I hope dreamhost dont complain over the extra cpu time I am using.

I got a new camera yesterday! So if you are wondering why all the pictures suddenly look better quality thats why :). Its a Canon 300d and is so much nicer than my old canon A40. However its a lot harder to use and I'm not quite happy with all of my shots. I'm using to much memory too!
Here is my new baby.

I added a few more photos and my fancy new random photo generator for the top image. I really like it however they are quite big around 40kb each. At least there are only 14 or so. :)
I today just removed the title page. Now its just the php gallery which is how I want it now. The changing title picture is fancy enough!

First entry in the log. Just seeing if all this works. In the next week or so I'll be adding another photo gallery. I created this file so I can write about changes to the site. The current site moved from http://melbournephotos.gotdns.com about a month ago. Once I work out how I'm going to link that address straight here. When I moved I also moved to proper hosting in the US. The server is amazingly quick and I'm very happy with everything so far!
